Mountainbiking with your family or friends! The highland of the Freita mountain range located at the Unesco geopark is an excellent place for a mountainbiking tour!
It is a relative easy circular biking tour with a 14.5 miles distance (about 3h30m biking) with moderate altitude levels what makes it accessible for either experienced as not so experienced bikers.
The mountainbiking tour is specially interesting because you will pass through several old villages and have the opportunity to observe different kinds of geological phenomena. Such as the 246 feet high cascade (one of the highest of Europe, not considering Scandinavia and the Alps).
You will also see the ‘rock delivering stone’ phenomena, the so called ‘pedras parideiras’. This is a very rare phenomena which is only observed at this specific location and in Russia, near St. Petersburg.
The highland is a rough and impressing area because of its particular landscape. Still though the area was made a habitable place by its population mainly because of the possibility to create cattle. The beautiful brown Arouquesa cows walk freely through the fields and at the end of the day they return freely to their own cowsheds again!
Besides the cows you might meet shepherds walking their goats and sheep.
The mountainbiking tour will be mainly on paved roads but at some places we take a dirt road and sometimes it’s even necessary to walk a bit next to your bike. During the tour there will be time for a little local snack and, if the weather is in our favour, for a little dive in the river.
During the mountainbiking tour you will be accompanied by one of our guides.
Tugar also arranges accommodations in the Unesco Geopark!
